Norge Audio : Shyam Bajaj

In 1946, Eastern Electronics, manufacturers of Norge audiophile components started off as a small radio shop by the senior Bajaj Brothers and subsequently sold and serviced Murphy Radios for over 20 years. Shyam Bajaj, a self-confessed listener of Western music right from the 1940s till date, had a chance meeting with a Westrex Sound Engineer. An audition of his home-built Hi-Fi equipment sent him into raptures, which still resonates till this day. He joined his father's company in 1952, while graduating from college and attending night classes in Valve Electronic Theory. Shyam Bajaj constructed his first valve stereo amplifier in 1958 using EL84 and EL34 tubes, By then, music and amplifier -construction had become an obsession with him. His biggest dream was to work in an audio factory. For 12 years plenty of correspondences with European factories like Grunding, Nord Mende, Siemens and learning the German language followed, without success - till a friend brought in a Tandberg tape recorder for repairs. Correspondence for parts and a request for training with them fructified - a dream was to become true. So passionate and obsessed was he, that he left his wife Rani for two years (1964-66) on this training mission! On his return from Tandberg A/S of Norway, a world famous factory known for their tape recorders and audio equipments, Norge audio equipment was born in 1967. Today, Eastern Electronics make fine audiophile equipment like stereo amplifiers and speakers and are not afraid of competition from the Chinese or international MNCs. Their secret - high quality products at affordable prices, backed by excellent service (even 30-year-old equipment is serviced till date) and above all, a loyal team of workers. In 2002, after undergoing and an open heart surgery, the passion still remains and at the age of 71, there is no looking back, The Norge brand still commands a very high brand loyalty among the thousands of users. Some of the past and present users are the late RD Burman, the late Kishore Kumar, and the late Mohammad Rafi, as well as current popular artistes like Usha Uthup, Shaan; the Taj Group of Hotels, TIFR, IPCL, HDFC Bank etc. Site Designed & Developed by Qveda Interactive Design Site Maintained by Darshan Rane
